Cedarwood essential oil is a deep, earthy, and woody aromatic extract derived via steam distillation from the wood, bark, or chippings of various conifer species, most notably Cedrus atlantica (Atlas), Cedrus deodara (Himalayan), and Juniperus virginiana (Virginian).  The oil is characterized by a sweet, balsamic, and dry woody scent with undertones reminiscent of sandalwood, serving as a popular base note in perfumery and aromatherapy.
